Amazon R&D spending nearly doubled Microsoft’s last year

Amazon.com Inc. once again topped the list of U.S. company spending on research and development last year, according to FactSet Research Systems.

Amazon increased its R&D spending by more than $6 billion over the previous year, bringing its 2017 total to $22.6 billion.

Microsoft ranked No. 4 in 2016 and 2017, spending $12.3 billion both years, according to FactSet.

Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. ranked No. 2 last year with $16.6 billion in R&D spending, followed by Intel’s $13.1 billion.…
